St Pio Devotion
From the beginning of his pontificate, Pope Pius XII exhorted the faithful to gather together and pray often as a community. Padre Pio accepted and responded to this call by encouraging the faithful to gather in groups and pray according to the request of the Holy Father.
Today, the prayer groups which Padre Pio founded have produced great fruits of faith and devotion in many parts of the world.
In Singapore, we continue to respond to this call by gathering together every 23rd of the month and praying together.
Padre Pio said, "After my death I will do more. My real mission will begin after my death."
Padre Pio's spirit continues this promise which is confirmed by the testimonies of countless people who have received graces through his intercession.
Pope Benedict XVI said, "Spurred on and sustained by the example of Padre Pio and by his intercession, do your best to emulate him in order to help all to live a profound spiritual experience, centered on contemplation of the Crucified Christ, revealer and mediator of the merciful love of the Heavenly Father."
"Pray, hope and don't worry" was Padre Pio's constant advice to those who sought his help.
His spiritual counsel was always simple, yet filled with divine wisdom. It seemed that the great number of Padre Pio's spiritual children throughout the world is steadily growing.
His feast day is on 23rd Sept. He died on 23rd Sept 1968.
Currently, our St Pio Devotion is held on every 23rd of the month at the following churches:
1) Our Lady of Lourdes Church @7.00pm at St Bernadette Hall
2) Our Lady of Perpetual Succour @ 6.45pm (after mass)
3) St Anne's Church @ 6.45pm
And our St Pio Home Devotion is held on:
1) every 1st Saturday of the Month @ Kovan Residences
2) every 2nd Thursday of the Month @ Equatorial
We would like to invite you to join us in our Feast Day of St Pio of Pietrelcina, popularly known as St Padre Pio, this coming 22nd Sep 2017 at 6.00 pm at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Upper Serangoon Road (more details can be found in the Catholic News).
Padre Pio said, “After my death I will do more. My real mission will begin after my death.” Padre Pio’s spirit continues this promise which is confirmed by the testimonies of countless people who have received graces through his intercessions. The Prayer Groups in Singapore which have been promoting his spirituality for many years have produced great fruits of faith and devotion. Every month, we have 4 churches and 2 home devotion to cater to the spiritual needs of our faithful devotees who come from all over Singapore. There are many conversions and healings through the intercession of St Pio of Pietrelcina in these prayer centres. Testimonies or grace stories are usually featured in the Voice of Padre Pio magazine published by San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy.
And every year on his feast day, many devotees not only from Singapore but from neighbouring countries would attend. Many conversions have taken place, people have gone back to God. The sick, the elderly and people with all kinds of problems would present themselves humbly but faithfully seeking the prayers and intercessions of St Pio.
“Pray, hope and don’t worry” was Padre Pio’s constant advice to those who sought his help. His spiritual counsel was always simple, yet filled with divine wisdom. It seems that the great number of St Pio’s Spiritual Children throughout the world, including Singapore is increasing. In our suffering and troubled world, St Pio’s words still resound, bringing hope and healing.
In the words of Pope Benedict XVI during the Angelus of Sunday 18.9.2005:
“With regard to Padre Pio, he said: “In our own age the figure of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, whom we will commemorate this Friday (23 Sept 2005), stand out. When he celebrated holy Mass, he relived the mystery of Calvary with such intensity so as to edify the faith and devotion of all. Moreover, the stigmata, which God gave to him showed how closely he was confirmed to the Crucified Jesus.”
“In this friar of the 20th century the people recognized Jesus….”
St Pio is continuing his mission, his mission of love and service. As Pope Francis said during the Jubilee for Prayer Groups of Padre Pio last 6 Feb 2016: “I am thinking of the prayer groups, which St Pio called “nurseries of the faith, the fertile soil of love”; they were not just centres for happy gatherings with friends and to find support, but the fertile soil of divine love. This is what prayer groups are! Prayer, in fact, is a true and proper mission, which brings the fire of love to the whole humanity.”
Padre Pio always liked to say: “Prayer is the greatest weapon we have, a key that opens the heart of God.” And Pope Francis likened it to a simple key which opens the heart of God. He said, “The heart of God is not “heavily guarded” with many security measures. You can open it with a common key, with prayer. For His is a heart of love, a father’s heart. And it is the Church’s greatest strength, one which we must never let go of, for the Church bears fruit only if she does as did Our Lady and the Apostles, who “with one accord devoted themselves to prayer (Act 1: 14). While I thank you for your commitment, I encourage you. May the prayer groups be “centres of mercy”: centres that are always open and active, which through the humble power of prayer may bring the light of God to the world and the energy of love to the Church”.
Padre Pio, who called himself “a poor brother who prays”, wrote that prayer is “the highest apostolate that a soul can exercise in the Church of God”. May you always be joyful apostles of prayer! Prayer works miracles. The apostolate prayer works miracles.
Come then, brothers and sisters in Christ and join us in our Feast Day of St Pio of Pietrelcina on Friday, 22 Sep 2017 @Nativity Church at 6.00 pm and experience a new beginning, and the powerful intercession of this great saint, who leads many souls to the path of healing and holiness.
St Pio Devotion Singapore, in solidarity with the Padre Pio Prayer Group of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, and all Padre Pio Prayer Group throughout the world, invites all devotees to gather on June 15, 2017, eve of the 15th anniversary of the Canonization of St. Pio, for a night of Eurcharistic Adoration, Recitation of the Holy Rosary, and Eucharistic Celebration.
As Padre Pio says, “Pray much, my children, pray always, without tiring, because I entrust to prayer this Work that God has wanted and that will continue to sustain itself and prosper through the assistance of Divine Providence and the spiritual and charitable contribution of all the souls that are praying.”
